The Space

I have a rare space opening up starting in August or Sept, 2024 — size 9.5 x 16.2 ft, $455/mo, (including wifi and all utilites, NNN). The space is on the second floor, among 15 other artist studios. Located in the Japantown neighborhood of the I.D. in downtown Seattle, just a few blocks east of the Pioneer Square art galleries.

This studio doesn’t have a window but does have a sweet skylight & 12’ tall ceilings with tons of wall space. Walls & ceilings are smooth-wall, drywall over wood studs. Fluorescent lights, plus a 4-plex outlet on the ceiling with it’s own switch on the wall so it’s easy to rig up your own custom lighting. It also has it’s own exhaust fan and it’s own heater. Shared kitchenette & bathroom with utility sink down the hall. Please note there is a long flight of stairs to get up to our floor, and no elevator.

Looking for studio artists/visual artists only; work space only, (not live/work). This is a quiet group of studios, full of worker bees who are usually busy in their spaces doing their thing, (ie: not lots of socializing). Not suited for toxic, dusty or noisy work, or industrial-types of production work.

The I.D. is an interesting neighborhood full of funky stores & restaurants—you’ll never go hungry. Parking is expensive during the day, (free street parking at night). But it’s a great location for public transportation. The light rail Chinatown station is just a block away, as is the street car, and many bus routes. The ferries are just a few blocks west.

If you’re interested please reply via email by clicking on “contact this space” in the green bar at the top of the screen. Please include a link to your website or a place where you’ve posted your artwork, and some info about the type of work you would be doing in the space, (type of materials etc).

If this room isn’t the one for you, but you’d like to be added to my waiting list, click on “contact this space” above, and send me an email with ALL of the following info (no texts or phone calls please, I organize my waiting list via email replies):

- name, email, phone number, website link
- minimum size you need, and max price you can handle if something bigger opens up
- ideal start date
- what type of materials you use
- private space only, or are you interested in sharing a space?
- could you work in a space with a skylight but no windows (with good ventilation), or do you need a window that opens?
- any special requirements you have that might help me match you up with the right space?

The Building

519 art studios is a group of work spaces for visual artists in downtown Seattle. We’re located on the 2nd floor of the HT Kubota Building in the Japantown area of the I.D. a few blocks from the Pioneer Square art galleries.

This is an excellent spot for public transportation - light rail & street car both stop a block away on Jackson, plus a number of major bus routes stop very close by. Parking is either metered parking on the street (free after 8pm), or many pay lots in the neighborhood.
